One of the key versions of the Otter was as a military light utility transport. A variety of cargo door conversions exist on the market to this day to transform the main cabin of an Otter to a cargo door to facilitate loading of larger cargo items.
Real world implementations of seating are often fairly flexible, allowing for a mix of seats and cargo in the main compartment.
(This would also apply to the DHC-6 Twin Otter, and even more profoundly to the DHC-4 Caribou and DHC-5 Buffalo, as they were developed first and foremost as transports, with the latter two incorporating rear ramps, but will provide separate entries for these down the road with specific documentation).
Cargo loads for the DHC-3T appear to max at 288 cf (8.15 cubic meters) and 2800 lbs (1270 kg). Military specifications for the original DHC-3 600 hp Otter put the payload at 2100 lbs, but with a range of 875 miles
